Adept is hiring a Senior Packaging Engineer to support Adept’s fast-growing CPG Practice. The individual selected for this role will be responsible for providing packaging leadership to manage strategic growth and cost optimization projects from design through commercialization. They will also be responsible for material evaluation, data management, supplier management, sustainability assessments, process and quality improvements. The role can be supported remotely with limited travel to client’s headquarters in the Greater San Francisco area.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage packaging development process, including the creation of packaging designs, prototypes and performance testing
  • Troubleshoots packaging issues arising from designs, materials and processes, identify root cause and implement creative, timely and cost-effective solutions
  • Analyze specifications of product and consumer needs to design and deliver the best materials, form and packaging design
  • Maintain and implement standards and guidelines for supplier evaluation. Periodically conduct supplier reviews. Contribute packaging performance as an ongoing part of supplier relationship management
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, plants, co-manufacturers and other sources of applicable technologies, as well as internal partners
  • Accountable for the creation and maintenance of packaging specifications
  • Work closely with packaging procurement and regulatory to optimize supply base and ensure suppliers are complying with customer, regulatory and internal requirements
  • Organize and conduct trials and scale-ups in a manufacturing environment
  • Identify and implement cost savings initiatives related to packaging materials, labor, efficiency, transportation, and storage
  • Stay informed of sustainable packaging solutions and support testing and training protocol for implementation


  • Bachelor’s degree in packaging science, engineer, design, or relevant field of work
  • Master of Science or Engineering ideal
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in packaging engineering
  • Demonstrated project management skills
  • Extremely detail oriented and organized
