The Opportunity
 
Adept Group is seeking a hands-on Field Service Engineer to support packaging development and in-plant activities across food & beverage and consumer goods manufacturing environments. This role combines packaging engineering design and validation with field-based technical service, ideal for those who enjoy being on the plant floor, lab testing, and optimizing packaging systems. 
 
You’ll work closely with packaging development teams, plant engineers, and material and OEM suppliers to conduct packaging trials, validate PET and blow-molded components, collect and analyze performance data, and support the successful commercialization of packaging systems. 
 
This is a remote role that requires 50-70% domestic travel.  
 
Key Responsibilities: 
  • Executes product initiatives, packaging design and performance enhancements, cost-improvement efforts, and promotional activities.
  • Lead plant-based packaging trials, including equipment setup, material qualification, and data collection.
  • Conduct package performance testing and evaluate results for compliance, manufacturability, and performance.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports and presentations, summarizing test outcomes and improvement recommendations.
  • Support equipment installation, validation, and troubleshooting on packaging and blow-molding lines.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with R&D, operations, and quality to ensure readiness for full-scale production.
  • Execute Design of Experiments (DOE) and statistical analysis to drive process optimization.
  • Maintain packaging test equipment and ensure adherence to internal and industry standards (ASTM/ISTA). 
Typical Day-to-Day: 
  • Conduct on-site plant trials and performance testing. 
  • Collect and analyze trial data; identify issues impacting line performance or packaging quality. 
  • Communicate findings and recommendations to internal and client stakeholders. 
  • Travel 50–70% to client manufacturing sites. 
Requirements: 
  • 1–5 years of experience in packaging engineering, field service, or plant operations. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Packaging, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering (or technical trade school equivalent).
  • Hands-on experience with packaging equipment, blow molding, or PET packaging development.
  • Familiarity with ASTM and ISTA testing methods.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and communication skills. 
Nice-to-Haves:
  • Experience with package testing instruments (drop, burst, leak, compression). 
  • Background in food, beverage, or CPG manufacturing. 
  • Exposure to GMP, FDA, or ISO packaging standards. 
  • Experience conducting line trials and packaging qualifications.

Compensation Range: $65,000 - $97,000
