The Opportunity
 
Adept Group is seeking a Packaging Engineer (1099 Contractor) to add to our team! This candidate would have 3+ years of full packaging development experience within the Food & Beverage industry. They would also have experience with frozen food cartons, flexible films, thermoform packaging, corrugate, and stretch wrap. Familiarity with Spec/PLM systems.
 
This is a 1099 Contractor (Independent Contractor) opportunity for 3 months at 40 hours per week with some travel to Portsmouth, NH, Virginia, and/or Nova Scotia.
 
Key Responsibilities: 
  • Support Packaging Specialist with spec uploads and validations in GSM system 
     
  • Review dielines, packaging copy, and artwork for accuracy 
     
  • Validate packaging efficiency (dimensions, fit, palletization) 
     
  • Ensure accuracy of packaging data across GSM, JD Edwards, TraceGains 
     
  • Support commercialization team with packaging-related project updates (2–3 meetings weekly) 
     
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with QA, Regulatory, Product Development
Typical Day-to-Day: 
  • Receive work packages from Packaging Specialist
     
  • Upload and validate specs in GSM / JD Edwards 
     
  • Handle data accuracy checks and troubleshooting 
     
  • Coordinate with QA and commercialization teams 
     
  • Traveling to plants, if needed
Requirements: 
  • 3-7 years of packaging engineering experience
  • Food & Beverage industry experience
  • Materials: Frozen food cartons, flexible films, thermoform packaging, corrugate, and stretch wrap 
  • Systems: PLM and ERP familiarity
  • Ability to quickly learn company-specific processes and workflows 
  • Strong attention to detail for accuracy 
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for plant support 
Nice-to-Haves: 
  • TraceGains system
     
  • Prior frozen food packaging experience 
     
  • Palletization/efficiency review experience 
     
  • Familiarity with commercialization processes 
     
     
  • Experience with laminated films and semi-rigid thermoforms (skin pack) would be a plus
